High Speed Broadband Service

.0 I have not been writing for this blog for quite sometime now. Not that I have nothing to say but rather just being cautious in making opinion. However, in the cause of my works as wireless solution provider, system integrator and equipment supplier, I do however, meet and talk to many people in divest background of telecommunication industries who one way or another have strong interest in following up the development of High Speed Broad Band business in Malaysia. They came from various section of the industry as well as users.

.0 I have attended quite a number of ICT Seminars and recently the National ICT Convention organised by Mampu and MDec. In general the theme of the convention is about 'Connected Government' through ICT in promoting One Malaysia. The main focus of discussion is about how to improve delivery system between Government to Government, Government to Businesses and Government to Citizens. It also highlight Malaysian Government Experience for the pass decade in embracing ICT to improve its delivery services to the public. Some of the major achievements in E-Government are things like E-Procurment, E-Filing, E-Lodgement and E-PBT, E-Tanah and so on. Mampu has got so much in the plate to do as far as ICT project is concern. However, all these applications require High Bandwidth High Speed Broadband Infrastructure in order to deliver the services efficiently to the public. lt is very surprised indeed, to note that most speakers are very concern about the availability of High Speed Broadband Services in the true sense of the words. LHDN for example has got to increased its Bandwidth to 69 Mbps to cater for huge last minute filing during the final week of Income Filing and it cost LHDN about RM 600,000 per 28 Mbps. These figures are indeed far too expensive for bandwidth of that size. In most developed countries 100 Mbps is a standard package of Broadband Services to HOME and will cost a few hundred Ringgit only.

.0 Most major service providers are still talking about their plans to build a Seamless Broadband Access Networks that offer High Speed Internet Connection and their bullishness on business prospect as Malaysia Broadband Internet Access is still below 10% penetration. Offcourse one or two Wimax Service Providers has started building the Networks and others are still planning to build. At the same time Contents Providers are crying for the delivery of the real High Quality High Speed Broadband Access to support their growing business.

.0 Whatever the plans are for the broadband infrastructure to be made available to the public or government, from my observation on the discussion in ICT forums, the broadband insfrastructure is far lagging behind as compared to the demand either from business sector or from government ICT applications. Therefore, I believed it will still take some number of years before One Malaysian across the board can enjoy the real High Speed Broadband Service in the true sense of the words.

.0 However, Malaysia public applause Malaysian government for taking positive steps for investing some billion ringgit for Telekom Malaysia to construct the HSSB networks to bring Malaysia to the next level in the digital world. With the implemetation of HSSB infrastructure, we'll expect to see drastic growth in the Multimedia Industry that includes IPTV and Contents delivery. At the same time push the knowledge economy to the next level. We truly look forward for day when Malaysia will become one world leading movie contents providers to Hollywood, Bollywood and what not. With this HSSB infrastructure available in Malaysia, it will make Malaysia as among the very few countries in the world that will successfully reduced the Digital Divide amongst its people and create a new whole word of business opportunities for all population.
